ChiefFirst let me take the opportunity to welcome you to your police departments’ new website. On September 4th 2007 I was honored and humbled to take the oath of office as the newly selected Police Chief for my home town. Honored to be selected to following in my grandfathers’ footsteps and humbled by the overwhelming turnout of citizens, friends and coworkers to attend the ceremony. In my closing remarks on that day I made the members of your police department, our elected officials and citizens a promise, “I promise to do my best to leave your town and police department better than I found it”. I also pledged to move forward with a proactive community policing program that solicits participation input from our citizens. I hope thus far I have proven to be true to my word. About your new Police Chief:Born in Carteret County, He grew up in Atlantic Beach. A graduate of West Carteret High School, He began his law enforcement career with the Atlantic Beach Police Department as a telecommunicator. In 1977 he was hired by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and over the course of his career with the patrol worked his way up from telecommunicator to trooper and through the trooper ranks to achieve the rank of Lieutenant before retiring. He served in Lenoir County as a Trooper from 1979 until 1981 when he transferred to Morehead City. In 1993 he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to Headquarters, Driver Training Section in Raleigh. In 1995 he was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and remained at Headquarters/ Training as the officer-in-charge of the NCSHP’s Driver Training Program. He attended the 19th session of the Administrators Officers Management Program at NC State in the summer of 1997 and was elected to serve as class president. In 2005 after retiring from the patrol he was selected to serve as Carteret County’s Emergency services Director where he remained until he was selected as the Police Chief for Atlantic Beach.
